So many issues face us but TOGETHER, we can tackle them and make our community a better place.
Our amenities in Grosse Pointe Park are top quality, but their longevity needs to be secured. The marina at Windmill Pointe Park is quickly approaching the end of its useful life. There are some outstanding neighbors that currently serve on the Marina Sub-Committee, but they need more support from the City Administration, a more focused effort, and a plan created and put in place for the marina.
Our lead pipes are a serious concern that have, simply stated, gone mostly ignored. This is an important matter that impacts the health and well-being of the entire community currently, and for generations. The Public Service Committee responsible for the lead pipes and other infrastructure items has not met since June 2020. This needs to change.
Promoting Our City
One of my first items of business that I will propose is to create an initiative centered around the promotion of Grosse Pointe Park. The Sustain Grosse Pointe Park initiative has shown there was a need in the community to promote our local businesses and to raise awareness. Our community, with its short-commute to Downtown Detroit, Lake St. Clair at our doorstep, and four business districts, should have more people wanting to live here and play here. An initiative to promote our City, with a consortium, working alongside our Tax Increment Financing Authority, our Downtown Development Authority, and our City Administration is an effort I will lead.
Community engagement is an actionable item. I believe community engagement starts with active listening, and understanding the needs and desires of the entire community. That means every business, and every one of the 11,000+ of us that live in Grosse Pointe Park have an opportunity to have our voices and opinions heard. The current Master Plan has been a much welcomed addition, but we must do more.
The biggest issue currently facing an engaged community is how the City interacts with the residents. There is an outreach and communication plan that must be created and executed. When a written paper document that comes out quarterly (The Communicator) is held up as the primary source of communication and outreach to us, it means there is significant room for improvement.
